Why do Christians think they are the only ones going to Heaven?

Ask a Christian if they are going to heaven and the answer you get is yes. Ask a Christian if other religious people are going to heaven and the answer you get is no. So why do Christians believe that they are the only ones going to heaven while the world around them is perishing and on their way to hell?

Some might call Christians arrogant or snobbish to teach theirs is the only way to heaven, and that would be true if Christians thought that they were going to heaven based on some kind of goodness or earned recognition from within themselves.

The truth is Christians believe that they are going to heaven not on the basis of their own good works or some kind of intrinsic value within themselves, but they believe they will go to heaven because of the one they follow. Jesus Christ himself said “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me”. Christians find their hope and salvation in Jesus Christ, not in some good works system or religion.

The real question is, how can Christians be so insistent that Jesus has the answers or that he is in fact the only way to heaven? If a police officer knocked on your door and wanted to speak to you, you would probably not just open the door without trying to find out if the man on the other side is actually a police officer. Most people would ask to see the mans badge, this badge the police officer carries is a symbol of his authority and proves that he has been entrusted with keeping the peace and enforcing the law. That badge he carries is the badge of his authority!

Likewise Jesus Christ has a badge of authority that he holds, The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus proves that he is who he claimed to be. The resurrection of Christ proves to the world that he is the son of God as he claimed to be and that all authority in heaven and earth are in fact given to him. The resurrection is his badge of authority!

Without the resurrection, Jesus would be just another religious person going around doing good works and preaching sermons that he really knew nothing about. Jesus said, speaking of his life and physical body, “destroy this temple and I will raise it up again in three days”. He spoke this of himself and after being crucified, He proved his words were true and raised himself up from the dead.

With all the religions in the world, Christianity has one thing that none of the other religious systems can claim, Christians have a risen Savior and he has all power to save any who would come to him in faith!

“Christianity has one thing that none of the other religious systems can claim, Christians have a risen Savior and he has all power to save any who would come to him in faith!”

Prove it.

I’m a Christian. If you ask me if I’m going to heaven, I’ll say, “Yes, I think so.” If you ask me if non-Christians are going to heaven, I’ll say, “Yes, I think so.” I say “yes” because I believe that Christ’s redemptive work has saved all of creation (see Romans 5:12-18). I say “I think so” because ultimately, I cannot know and cannot presume to know what God will do.

In short, not all Christians will agree with your claims about Christianity.

It’s funny that I found this article from Fark.com, where a lot of fun is made of Christians – usually deservedly so, or at least tongue-in-cheek. I was pleased to find this link was actually an explanation. We Christians, in general, do a very poor job of communicating why we are going to Heaven, and instead often come off like arrogant windbags. Instead of being known for what the Church is against (homosexuality, abortion, etc.) we should make it known what we are for – a relationship w/ Christ Jesus, showing the Door for people to knock on it themselves, accepting EVERYBODY w/out judgement. Jesus dined w/ “sinners” and tax collectors w/out calling them names and yelling that they will go to hel, so we should too. He knew the “religious” leaders are the ones leading far too many astray. Be a revolutionary rebel, like Jesus, and reflect His love onto all others. Not a judgemental fool like the religious leaders who had him killed.

Are you serious?

What physical evidence is there of the ressurrection? The biblical passages were written second or third hand at least and many years later. There are no eye-witness statements. I agree with many of your assertions, excepting that, since there is no proof, humans will just believe what feels right.

just-a-point @ 1:15 pm

what proof do you have better than anyone else?

moses spoke to god, what proof is there? none. people just believed his claim.

jesus was resurrected, what proof is there? none. people claimed they saw it, and others believed it.

only those with a vested interest saw it, otherwise maybe more people would believe it. if a disinterested third party were involved, then you might have something there. christianity got rolling later in a larger quantity based on some top-notch proselytizing and good luck. the claims of very convincing people spread the story not the claim you mentioned, which is simply not proof.

what you are saying comes down to faith, pure and simple–and there’s nothing wrong with that. everyone’s perception of the world is their own filter and every person who betters the world is good in my book, regardless of their beliefs.

please don’t try and make a statement suggesting you have empirical evidence to prove the existence of a true religion, that is misleading. you’ll get further with truth. religion, done right, can bring about great happiness. done right is honesty. let people pick to be christian or not–no strong-arming people with circular logic or unprovable threats. then you know the people who show up to church really just want to be there.

Romans 10:17 Faith comes by hearing the word. Unless you are in the word then you have no faith.Did the babylonian ,persian, greek, roman, empires not exist. Yet there is no one alive today to prove they did. All foretold in the book of daniel. Bible Prophecy cannot be denied. Yashua (his hebrew name) was spoken about by moses, jeremiah, zacheriah, david way before he was born. You cannot talk about faith(emunah) without searching for it, much less real truth. If you want the truth then you must get into hebrew culture, tradition, and get to know what really was going on during that time. those are his chosen people. Also most back seat theologines based there opinions on commentaries.Because they are to lazy to read TRUE commentary the PROPHETS.THEY SHOULD CHOOSE THE RIGHT MENTORS (THEY ARE ALL BETWEEN THE PAGES OF THE BIBLE.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. ( john 14:6)

Christ’s death on the Cross provides salvation for all who believe in Him-not for all in Creation. This is key to salvation. It sounds harsh to a non-Christian, but it is God’s Truth, not anyone else’s. John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Our job is to make sure all people hear that Truth, but the decision is to listen to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.

Cathy @ 8:25 am

Why would people have died for a lie, which they did, following the Resurrection? God does not force people to believe and follow-it is a gift we choose to accept. I cannot call myself a Christian if I deny the one basic principle that Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the Cross for my sins and then rose to live with the Father. It is that simple for me.

Well there doesn’t have to be any “proof” u feel it in your heart, and know that it is true, because it is the holy word of God. When you put your trust in Jesus Christ, He is all you need, and the bible is the truth. (John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.) Believe what you want, but we Christians know the truth.
